Greenwood with Kevin Costner (r) in Thirteen Days: After facing the Russians in this film about the Cuban Missile Crisis, he's now facing the supernatural.
Q. Bruce Greenwood gave a remarkable portrayal of President Kennedy in Thirteen Days. Where did this guy come from, and how did he master JFK's distinctive accent?
D. Dumas, Salt Lake City, Utah.

A. He came from Canada and did solid work in TV (St. Elsewhere) and films (Double Jeopardy) before landing his breakout role in Thirteen Days. "I desperately wanted it but thought they'd made a mistake when I got the call," Greenwood, 44, tells us. "To get JFK's accent and physical tics, I listened to audiotapes and watched film clips every day." His next film is Below, about a creature discovered by a sub during World War II. He had considered Basic Instinct 2, but negotiations stalled. Maybe Sharon Stone was scarier than that creature.
