Bruce Greenwood stars as documentary photographer Thomas Veil in the compelling UPN drama Nowhere Man. In the show, Greenwood's character seemingly has his entire existence erased in the course of one evening. The show, seen Mondays on UPN, features Greenwood's character in his quest to find some answers... Tonight we hope to get some answers from Bruce Greenwood, the actor... With great pleasure folks...here's Bruce Greenwood!!! Bruce Greenwood (Speaker)
Hi this is Bruce Greenwood and thanks a lot for joining me online tonight. This is my first experience here so if my answers seem hasty and jilted then they are just hasty and jilted... I'm really grateful that the show has had a strong response from people and I'm just crossing my fingers that we'll get a chance to do it again next year... as now it is hanging in the balance. So please ask anything you'd like...Moderator (Speaker)
Ok... Great Bruce...Let's get right to the questions...

We love your show, everyone here does, all 15, were at a partyBruce Greenwood (Speaker)
Wow!! thank you! Outstanding! What's the address and I'll come over!! It's Friday after all! I'm in a party mood.Marge12 (PRODIGY Member)
You had such a rugged schedule shooting Nowhere Man, being in almost every scene. Once the series wrapped for the season, was it hard to wind down and settle into a more normal pace?Bruce Greenwood (Speaker)
I discovered through the year that can operate well on about 6 hours sleep, which is half of what I like, Now I just leap out of bed and pursue my own life... which is a nice change. I t geared me up to work on a high energy level and turned out to be a good thing in my life... I'm relaxing with a vengeance.NJ Annie (PRODIGY Member)
As an actor, I was wondering what you find your biggest challenge to be in doing the show?Bruce Greenwood (Speaker)
Not repeating myself emotionally, not playing different scenes with similar beats I've used in episodes prior.Marge12 (PRODIGY Member)
What was your least favorite episode of Nowhere Man and why?Bruce Greenwood (Speaker)
Forever Young... it was absurdly implausible...totally implausible... hysterically implausible.... Forever Jung... that is, not Young.Brunswick 22 (PRODIGY Member)
Hi Bruce. I was wondering if you could share some thoughts with us on your St. Elsewhere days? As you reflect back on doing the series, what do you take away with you from that time (both good and bad)?Bruce Greenwood (Speaker)
It was my first experience working with quality writers and producers on a show who allready knew what it was... so I came in at a comfortable time and had the luxury of stepping into a situation that was working well. I learned a lot about real quality dialogue that was written and I learned not to play everything... there's a phrase in acting called throwing it away and I learned to throw dialogue away easily... not to ladle important info. on every word and phrase... And the stories were very strong and they came well out of character.... so that was a fortunate experience. I don't have any negative things about it at all so I'm glad I can't share that with you... but I'm sure there were negative things I just can't remember.Marge12 (PRODIGY Member)
If Nowhere Man isn't renewed (and I fervently hope it is], do you have any projects lined up?Bruce Greenwood (Speaker)
Yes. Should that unmentionable come to pass (and we will find out next Thursday) I have a movie role to do in Armenia and Paris.Moderator (Speaker)
Actor Bruce Greenwood is currently reviewing your questions and answering as quickly as he can. Please continue to submit your questions... We're glad you could join us this evening... pmckay is up next!pmckay (PRODIGY Member)
What is your favorite episode of Nowhere Man and why?Bruce Greenwood (Speaker)
I have a few favorites: Through a Lens Darkly is my #1 favorite... and Something About Her is another. A departure from our style and genre was Dark Side of the Moon... the first two I like because the emotional journey he goes on is so tangible and quite adult that it was challenging to play and the stories paid off in the end. I was lucky to work with great actors with luckily is more the rule than the exsception. Dark Side I like on a visual level... the working conditions were extreme...in the rain in Portland and it was a real challenge to make it.... It really paid off in something visually rewarding. And it was nice to work hard and end up with something we could really be proud of.Kramer 23 (PRODIGY Member)
Hi Bruce, I was wondering what types of things you like to do when you're not working?Bruce Greenwood (Speaker)
Exactly what I will do when we go off line: a friend is coming over to play piano and I'm kind of a guitar player and we will just while the night away playing music, drinking coffee and hanging out. My idea of a close to perfect evening.Marge12 (PRODIGY Member)
We've noticed that some actors that you've worked with in the past, including Michael Tucker from Spy and Jamie Rose from St. Elsewhere, have showed up on Nowhere Man. Did you play any role in that?Bruce Greenwood (Speaker)
No the only role I played in that was Tom Veil... but I was happy to see them both again. What! Do you think I have control? Are you kidding!!!You think Tom Veil is a pawn try bein an actor... Brunswick 22 (PRODIGY Member)
Is it true you were contemplating becoming a professional skier at one point in your life? What motivated you--and what stopped you?Bruce Greenwood (Speaker)
Well, it is absolutely true and my father motivated me a lot by exposing me to skiing at an early age and I'm a competitive sort of person but I was stopped by an injury in the days before arthroscopy.Moderator (Speaker)
Oh those knees...pmckay (PRODIGY Member)
You mentioned a knee operation in Stockholm on the fx Show. Will you be having the surgery this Summer as indicated?Bruce Greenwood (Speaker)
It turns out I am not a great candidate for that surgery as I require something more extensive so I am looking into a different surgery that is available in Portland.... this surgeon in Portland was the Surgeon for the Blazers and I've seen him several times throughout the year and we have come up with a good procedure for this chronic injury...Moderator (Speaker)
Bruce joins us by phone this evening, dictating his answers to a typist... Please continue to submit your questions...Kramer 23 (PRODIGY Member)
Do you root for any professional sports teams?Bruce Greenwood (Speaker)
Actually I am shamefully ignorant about professional sports... I don't really have an alma mater that I champion and I guess I'm just... ignorant about sports.FINZZ (PRODIGY Member)
Do you have any hints on upcoming plot twists in future episodes?Bruce Greenwood (Speaker)
I have lots of hints but the question is whether I will give any to you!...... of course, not all is what it seems and I think we want to start thinking about failed identity.... end of hint!FINZZ (PRODIGY Member)
Do the creators have an actual idea as to why everything is happening in the show, or do they play it by ear?Bruce Greenwood (Speaker)
I think there probably is a lot of extemporaneous ear play. However, maybe that's just what they want me to believe...sometimes it seems like there's a design and other times it seem slike a great big accident.Moderator (Speaker)
Did you know that Bruce Greenwood's film credits include the action thriller Passenger 57? Ask him about working on the film...krisrh (PRODIGY Member)
How is working in Nowhere Man different than St. Elsewhere? Is it different doing a show for UPN than one of the larger studios?Bruce Greenwood (Speaker)
Yes, certainly. The difference vis a vis the networks is that UPN struggles to get recognition and pulling in the viewers because their viewer base is so much smaller and from an acting perspective is that on this show I work every minute on every day and on St. Elsewhere I worked a few hours a day... there's no comparison to the workload. It's very grueling and your life takes absolutely backseat and in fact it doesn't even get on the bus. In a way I have to re-discover my self.Moderator (Speaker)
Bruce Greenwood stars each week on the compelling UPN drama Nowhere Man. On the show he plays documentary photographer Thomas Veil, who, in the course of one evening, seemingly has his whole existence erased.... You can write to Bruce Greenwood now with your questions!moviess (PRODIGY Member)
Being born in Canada, can you vote in the US? Who would you vote for?Bruce Greenwood (Speaker)
No I can only be drafted! I would vote for the best man for the job!Moderator (Speaker)
Good answer, good answer....qqzy (PRODIGY Member)
What so you prefer, doing a TV Series like Nowhere Man or St. Elsewhere... or doing feature films?Bruce Greenwood (Speaker)
Feature films . There's more time to prepare, shoot and there's more attention paid to detail...TV is a factory and to create a product of quality with the time constraints and budget restirctions is very tricky and not always possible. Of course it'd be different if everyone listened to everything I had to say!!!Then again we might have been off the air in three shows! qqzy (PRODIGY Member)
Do you plan on moving more into films or are you staying with TV for a while?Bruce Greenwood (Speaker)
I'll definitely stay with this show so long as the opportunity is there and I will go with the next opportunity after that.Moderator (Speaker)
Bruce Greenwood's most widely recognized character to date is that of the manipulative Dr. Seth Griffin on the highly praised television series St. Elsewhere. Since the end of that series, Bruce has built a solid reputation as a skillful actor in an extensive range of roles on both television and the big screen. Please write to our guest now with your questions and comments...MalibuLive (PRODIGY Member)
Who have been some of your biggest influences or inspirations in acting or in life in general?Bruce Greenwood (Speaker)
An actor named Brad Dourif was the person who drew me to acting in the first place when I saw him play the role of Billy in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest... that was a turning point. I don't know if I see actors as influences but there are many I respect a great deal and aspire to be as good as and if I work hard enough maybe i'll approach that: Ron Rifkin... dozens of wonderful ones and sometimes you just see a scene as you're channel surfing and that will re-inspire me to work harder...Ace 11 11 11 (PRODIGY Member)
where did you get your last name?Bruce Greenwood (Speaker)
From my father as far as I know!Maybe I should have grilled him more carefully... maybe my father's name is a hoax... i'm not sure I understand the question but maybe I wasn't meant to understand it but thanks anyway... MalibuLive (PRODIGY Member)
Who do you like playing better: Thomes Veil or Dr. Griffin? Who do you think you're more similar to?Bruce Greenwood (Speaker)
Veil, no question! I'm more similar to Veil although when I was playing Griffin I was about as confused and Machievellian as he was...Kaytlin (PRODIGY Member)
How many more shows are planned for this season!Bruce Greenwood (Speaker)
Hmmmm...I think three more.FILOL (PRODIGY Member)
If your whole life was erased like Veil's do you think you would handle it as well as he does?Bruce Greenwood (Speaker)
Hmmmm.... interesting question. I think I might go mad. I'm a bit more of a reactionary than he is. I mean, more knee-jerk reactionary than he is. Yeah, I might have crawled into the belltower a bit sooner....Moderator (Speaker)
After the chat, check out a photo of Bruce Greenwood. Simply JUMP: spotlight. You can also read a bio on our guest...Kenny1313 (PRODIGY Member)
Mr, Greenwood, have you ever been or are you currently married?Bruce Greenwood (Speaker)
Yes I have been and I am!SandiJ7 (PRODIGY Member)
I would like to know if Bruce has any acting, singing, or writing projects he's currently working on?Bruce Greenwood (Speaker)
I'm about to start a movie of the week with Linda Hamilton for ABC where we play detectives and if the series doesn't go I will be shooting a film in Armenia and Paris and I'm ALWAYS writing music... More for therapy than commerce though.SandiJ7 (PRODIGY Member)
I'd like to know what Bruce thinks of his "Unofficial Bruce Greenwood Homepage"?Bruce Greenwood (Speaker)
It really threw me actually. That first of all there was that kind of specific interest and so much detail: my mothers maiden name and all. When I saw it first I sat there with my mouth open. It's disconceritng that there's that kind of information available. The person who put it together stopped short of putting any information there that could be vulnerable, but it reminded me of a little connection to my privacy... I feel like if people wanted more detail there would be nothing I could do to stop it... I suppose some small prideful part of me was excited by it.SandiJ7 (PRODIGY Member)
I'd like to know if Bruce has had any of the children's books he's written published.Bruce Greenwood (Speaker)
They are children's songs actually and they are avilable through an artist named Norman Foote through Disney's children's series and I've had some used in films. In fact in Dumb and Dumber there's a song called "Two Footed Butt Crack" that plays in the background of the diner when Carrey throws the salt over his shoulder... if you listen that's me singing it - that kind of silly stuff. But it didn't make it on the soundtrack.Moderator (Speaker)
Actor Bruce Greenwood is currently reviewing your questions and answering as quickly as he can. Please continue to submit your questions...mattMil (PRODIGY Member)
Do you still make money everytime St. Elsewhere is played on TV LAND?Bruce Greenwood (Speaker)
After three shows.. maybe enought to buy a taco, without coleslaw.Moderator (Speaker)
There's a lot of fat in coleslaw, Bruce.... You're better of without it... Of course, tacos are not a dietetic delight either... SandiJ7 (PRODIGY Member)
What is Larry Hetzog really like? :-)Bruce Greenwood (Speaker)
Hertzog? He's a very creative, slightly mad, storyteller. And a cigar aficionado the like of which I never knew could exist. To him I think heaven is a humidor!!mattMil (PRODIGY Member)
How long ago was St. Elsewhere recorded?Bruce Greenwood (Speaker)
Almost ten years ago... ' 87. I was much younger...Moderator (Speaker)
Weren't we all, Bruce... Weren't we all... mattMil (PRODIGY Member)
Are you watching The Wizard of Oz on tv now?Bruce Greenwood (Speaker)
HaHaHa.... how did you know!! Where are you? I thought I heard a scuttling in the rafters. No, I'm standing on my deck overlooking the valley smog as it evaporates into the night sky...Moderator (Speaker)
For those not sure what Matt is talking about, The Wizard is on CBS tonight... although on the West Coast it doesn't start for another 30 minutes...Joker Here (PRODIGY Member)
Bruce, are you anything like your character Tom Veil in real Life?Bruce Greenwood (Speaker)
Probably... I think a lot of who I am shows up in a de facto kind of way in Tom Veil... I don't know how it could be otherwise unless I was a complete chameleon....Benjamima (PRODIGY Member)
Will there be more shows about the computer kid?Bruce Greenwood (Speaker)
Well, I don;t know. Sean Whelan is a wonderful actor and you can see him starting today in Twister,. I think his next role he's playing an assistant to Tommy Lee jones in a movie... he was one of the favorite characters of the year.... But I just thought of another episode I really enjoyed called An Enemy Within in which I was taken in by a young woman who was running a farm on her own.Moderator (Speaker)
Nowhere Man airs Mondays on UPN.... Late next week, it will be announced if the show will be renewed or not..Osgood 19 (PRODIGY Member)
Can I have your autograph?Bruce Greenwood (Speaker)
Yes... write to me in care of UPN based in LA at Paramount. I dont know the address offhand.Sir Helmioth (PRODIGY Member)
You were in Passenger 57!?! I LOVED that movie! Tell us about your role in the movie pleaseBruce Greenwood (Speaker)
I was the guy who owned the airline Weslye Snipes was flying on. He was the guy I was willing to sell down the river if it suited my needs.SandiJ7 (PRODIGY Member)
What ever happened to "Newt" the German Sheperd who was in the pilot? He wasn't there in Zero Minus Ten. Did he become Nowhere Dog?Bruce Greenwood (Speaker)
HaHa.... he wouldn't come out of his trailer... we discovered he eloped with a very high strung poodle who was very controlling and woulnd't let him return to the show.LEARNC (PRODIGY Member)
Bruce, is Alyson doing what she's doing because she's forced to or is she part of it all? Was she really your wife or is she just an implanted memory?Bruce Greenwood (Speaker)
That's a question to which I honestly don't have the answer as it has been kept under wraps even from me.Joker Here (PRODIGY Member)
Bruce, do know if Touchstone or UPN are going to release any of the Nowhere Man episodes on videocassette?Bruce Greenwood (Speaker)
I think there's a possibility simply because they were recorded so that if you listen to it in surround sound the experience is totally different. The experience is phenomenal... the post-production was done with home theatres in mind... I hope so anyway.Moderator (Speaker)
Tonight's chat will be avilable in transcript format early next week...Kaytlin (PRODIGY Member)
I have noticed that during ALMOST every episode of Nowhere Man that glass tends to shatter is this significant to the plot?Bruce Greenwood (Speaker)
Yes it is!!!willscarlett (PRODIGY Member)
Bruce, are there any scenes that you especially liked and enjoyed doing in the Nowhere Man series?Bruce Greenwood (Speaker)
Yes of course... generally a few a show that I really get into... as I mentioned before the shows that are my favorite were Chock-a-Block... generally speaking scenes that are not devoted to exposition but concentrate more on character and emotions.Sir Helmioth (PRODIGY Member)
Where do they shoot Nowhere man?Bruce Greenwood (Speaker)
In Portland Oregon.Moderator (Speaker)
We still have time for a few more questions...willscarlett (PRODIGY Member)
What do you like best about working with the cast and crew of Nowhere Man?Bruce Greenwood (Speaker)
The cast changes every week, so that's hard to answer and the crew is one of the toughest, hardest working crews ever, They work very long hours all year long...SOCCER BOY (PRODIGY Member)
How old are you?Bruce Greenwood (Speaker)
The back nine of 30!! You can look at my homepage and find out where I was born and who the delivering doctor was!!Moderator (Speaker)
Very funny answer Bruce... We like your sense of humor....PatPM (PRODIGY Member)
Hi Bruce - Welcome to Cyberspace! I have a question for you that Larry couldn't answer: Why did you cut your hair so short??Bruce Greenwood (Speaker)
Frankly I was tired of it! It was always in my face and I had worn it long for a year and I needed a change. I also needed to shave off Tom Veil; I needed a break from looking at that face every day. Actors thrive on change and to look at the same face and do for nine months is frustrating... also , it's summer, it's hot here! Also I don't have a professional standing by me with a blowdryer!!XStcher (PRODIGY Member)
My memory is drawing a blank - what role did you play in St. Elsewhere?Bruce Greenwood (Speaker)
Dr. Seth Griffin! The double talking, mysoginistic, dissembler.... Just a few more... I'm at 211...PatPM (PRODIGY Member)
I want to congratulate you on an earlier role, in St. Elsewhere -- you had to play such a wide range inside that single character, and you did it so well. Any favorite moments from St E?Bruce Greenwood (Speaker)
Most of those moments have faded into the recesses of my mind... I think waking up and discovering I had just slept with my boss' daughter...Moderator (Speaker)
Time for one or two more...Carvin1 (PRODIGY Member)
What kind of guitar do you own, Bruce?Bruce Greenwood (Speaker)
I own several. Gibson ES 335, a Mexican Strat with a rosewood fret board, a Yamaha semi-acoustic and an old Yamaha beach guitar...Moderator (Speaker)
Last question for Bruce Greenwood is coming up....Diamonback (PRODIGY Member)
What is probably your favorite role that you have played in your career?Bruce Greenwood (Speaker)
There are several... Dennis Wilson in the Beach Boys, I did a movie of the week called Adrift where I got to play a psychopath which was fun, and Tom Veil. Also the movie from last year called EM>Exotica; that was a great challenge for me and I enjoyed it. Also The Climb where I played a mountain climber named Herman Buhl... that was good.Moderator (Speaker)
Our thanks to Bruce Greenwood for a very enjoyable chat session. Continued success to you, sir--and we hope the news is good for you and the rest of the cast next week--we'll be pulling for you! Thanks again!Bruce Greenwood (Speaker)
Thanks so much for all your interest. I've really enjoyed communicating with everyone and I'd love to do it again. And if you want to see a show come back make some noise in UPN's direction and we are on the bubble as they say... until next time remember who you are. Thanks and goodnight!Moderator (Speaker)
Thank you, Bruce... And thanks to everyone who joined us tonight...Moderator (Speaker)
Hold on for one last comment...Bruce Greenwood (Speaker)
And, if you want, you can always write to Paramount and request Nowhere Man's return at: 5555 Melrose Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90038-3197. Write UPN on the envelope. Goodnight.Moderator (Speaker)
