Bruce Greenwood participated in this special weekend of ski activity for The Starlight Foundation at the end of his second year run on St. Elsewhere. The event was held at Whistler, just outside Vancouver and was organized by Dynasty's Emma Samms, whom Greenwood would later work opposite in 1994's Treacherous Beauties. The event was covered on Entertainment Tonight and Lifestyles of the Rich & Famous. The following article appeared in The Vancouver Sun:
A cast of celebrities has abandoned the soundstages of Hollywood and taken to the ski slopes of British Columbia for a followup to last year's successful ski tournament and media event.
Emma Samms, the star of ABC's Dynasty, is the leader of the pack, is due to arrive today to raise funds for her Starlight Foundation, which grants wishes to critically and terminally ill children.
She's brought with her Dynasty co-star Jack Coleman, as well as about 25 other well known faces. Celebrities who showed up to a kick-off dinner last night included singers Rita Coolidge and Mary Wilson, actors Gregory Harrison (Trapper John), Bruce Greenwood (St. Elsewhere), Martin Kove (Cagney and Lacey), and actresses Michele Scarabelli and Sheree Wilson, both from Dallas. Also on hand were stars of Canadian-based TV productions such as Night Heat and 21 Jump Street.
The celebrity ski tournament is a weekend packed with tradeoffs: the stars get a few days of skiing, all expenses paid, and Whistler gets publicity from media representatives who trail the stars on the slopes and around town.
Entertainment Tonight is sending a camera crew to cover the event, Fox Broadcasting is planning on running a segment on Whistler, and there are reporters and photographers from a variety of North American newspapers and magazines, including sporting and entertainment publications.
A crew from the syndicated series Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous attended last year's inaugural event and ran a six-minute segment on Whistler Mountain, which is due to repeat on the Apr. 29 episode of the program. This weekend Lifestyles plans to spend at least one day in Vancouver, filming scenes of former Supreme Mary Wilson touring Robson Street, the Vancouver Art Gallery and the boating areas around Granville Island.
Movie star Margot Kidder (Superman) said she will spend part of one day taking ski lessons, for the benefit of TV cameras, from members and former members of the Canadian national ski team.
On Sunday the ski champs - Todd Brooker, Laurie Graham, Felix Belczyk, Don Stevens and Rob Boyd - will race against the rock group Platinum Blonde, whose motto is, "we have never been beaten because we have never skied."
