Bruce Greenwood was interviewed on the Canadian talk show Etalk Daily on a program that aired the day before his movie The Republic of Love was released. A very fast-paced entertainment show similar to Access Hollywood in style, Ben Mulroney (son of former Prime Minister Brian Mulroney) introduced the spot and the interviewer was David Giammarco. Both Bruce Greenwood and Deepa Mehta were interviewed:
B.M.: Cursing Cupid this Valentine's Day? Well then take a trip to The Republic of Love starring Canadian favorite Bruce Greenwood. This feel good flick is guaranteed to leave you feeling fuzzy.
clip from The Republic of Love B.M.: Just in time for V.D. Day, I mean, Valentine's Day. Its a feel good flick from The Republic of Love.
clip from The Republic of Love B.M.: Based on Carol Shields novel, the film looks at love in the 21st Century.
clip from The Republic of Love B.M.: But according to Canadian celeb Bruce Greenwood its not just for the female faint of heart.
D.G.: Bruce, first question off the top, I have to ask you, you know, there's a lot of love stories out there so what sets this film apart?
B.G.: Well, I don't think you often see love stories about people my age, although I'm very young, you know, comparatively speaking perhaps to some older people. Its just nice to have a love story about guys who are, you know, sort of aren't, weren't born yesterday. You know, 'cause everybody wants to be in love and a, you know, I don't think people of our age, can I say? (asking David Giammarco) are any exception.
D.G.: Are you one of the persons who believes in love at first sight? Have you ever had that happen to you?
B.G.: Oh yeah, I mean, I've been smitten. Is it, you know, I haven't been free a lot of times to pursue what I'm quite sure is absolutely the real thing which is the real tragedy. (laughing)
B.M.: Ah, such is the nature of love and Bruce isn't the only one who's pledged allegiance to the Republic.
D.M.: Oh, I'm such a romantic, I mean its so politically incorrect but I just, I'm just so soppy about romance.D.G.: Most Directors will try to disguise Toronto or won't put to much attention to it but you make it a character in the movie.
D.M.: I actually really love Toronto and maybe its got something to do with being an immigrant. I didn't come here until I was in my mid-twenties and I see it differently and I don't take it for granted.
clip from The Republic of Love D.M.: It feels like a global city that really embraces the world, its a universal city. So for a film like this which is about love its great that I could use Toronto, a city that I really care for and love.
R.M.: Looks like a good one.
