The Republic of Love

E.F.: Its about love and its about, its about, I think what we can all relate to which is, we all want to fall in love. To find the right person to fall in love with. The trials and errors one has in finding that right person.

B.G.: Its about two people finding love in the late innings, and um, being a little leery of taking that plunge and then finally taking it and floating, you know.

B.G.: He's one of those guys who isn't giving up. He, he's always hoping.

D.M.: I could be slightly objective about the very "W.A.S.P." nature of the book and it was, I think perhaps my interpretation of the book is an immigrants interpretation of Canada and that was, I like that challenge.

D.M.: Every actor works in a different way and then again as a Director its a challenge and its almost like walking through a mine field to discover what language to talk with them in order to get what you want.

B.G.: Its allusive, you know, its not...you could say, I want him to be this way and I want him to be that way and that way and then when the scene comes up you kind of go, well yeah, I want him to be that way but its just not happening right now. So, how do we enlist those adjectives and enlist those sensibilities that we talked about in this moment when we're shooting, you know.

D.M.: To shoot a vulnerable man which is sort of, ah, very rarely happens in films these days, ah, was great because of course men are vulnerable and of course they're romantic. I love the fact that he was so totally romantic. It happens very rarely.

B.G.: I did it because I play so many bad guys and I and I'm, I don't wanna do that all the time. I want to have fun, you know. I mean, I wanna just have a nice little love story and that's what this is.
