The week Thirteen Days was released, the Post-Dispatch ran a front page and very long article on Hollywood's attempts to portray our presidents. The paragraph (which included two familiar photos) on Thirteen Days is extracted here:
Like "Nixon," the recent film "Thirteen Days" uses the story of an American
president to render complicated political issues accessible. As Kennedy,
Bruce Greenwood downplays the Boston accent and personal improprieties to
better convey the intelligence that steered the nation through the Cuban
missile crisis. Along with Hopkins' performance in "Nixon," it's one of the
great portrayals of an American president because it aspires to psychological
truth instead of cosmetic illusion.
