(2001 made-for-cable Showtime miniseries; first aired 1/20/01)
Bruce Greenwood flew to Vancouver for one day to shoot a short cameo with Kate Capshaw, Elle Macpherson and Brent Spiner for this four-hour Showtime miniseries that explores the lives of different women connected through a common therapist played by Stockard Channing. Greenwood's brief scene kicks off the very first story, in which Spiner plays the blind date from hell with Greenwood as his hapless friend, the one who sees quite clearly that the night is going badly indeed.
Although there were several different stories, this first one got most the publicity as the two disillusioned women went on to explore a quite explicit lesbian relationship, which seemed to utterly fascinate the press. Both actresses were heavily hyped and appeared in many interviews, but the entire show boasted an all-star cast with the other "Girl Thing" actresses being played by Rebecca DeMornay, Mia Farrow, Elizabeth Franz, Irma P. Hall, Linda Hamilton, Glenne Headly, Allison Janney Tina Lifford, Camryn Manheim, Margo Martindale, S. Epatha Merkeson, Kelly Rowan, Lynn Whitfield and Peta Wilson. The only other man listed in the cast besides Bruce Greenwood and Brent Spiner is Buck Henry, who played the cowhand in Soul Collector.
The miniseries was directed by Lee Rose, who personally asked Greenwood to do this cameo after previously directing him in The Color of Courage.
The entire miniseries is readily available on video and DVD.
