Myles Billingsley

(2000 CBS miniseries)

Bruce Greenwood co-stars with Anne Bancroft and Natasha Richardson in this CBS miniseries chronicling the plight of a group of concentration camp survivors who relocate to a small midwestern town toward the end of World War II. The uplifting story examines the difficulties both the refugees and the townspeople encounter during the traumatic adjustment.

Greenwood plays Myles Billingsley, who along with his wife Enid represents the social "peak" of the small town of Oswego NY where the refugees' camp is located. A prominent citizen and merchant, Myles is originally outspoken in criticism against the invading refugees, but after sharing the grief of his son's death with one of them (played by Canadian actor Colm Feore), he becomes their strongest champion.

A four-hour miniseries for CBS, Greenwood's entire storyline falls into the second half of the film and even though it's disappointinly small, did earn him a 2001 Gemini nomination for "Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role" in Canada. Based on the book "Haven" by Ruth Gruber, the well-intentioned telefilm is overlong and full of wondeful actors performing underwritten parts. Filming took place in Toronto, Canada from June 5 - August 14, 2000.
