(1994 made-for-tv movie; originally aired 5/9/94 on NBC)
Two young couples face similar tragedies: unborn children with irreversible medical problems. Bruce Greenwood and Michelle Greene play Fred and Karen Schouten, the parents of a brain damaged daughter, who will die within hours of her birth. They make the painful decision to donate her heart to the other infant, whose story we've also been following. Based on a widely covered Canadian news story, the five-year-old boy whose life was saved in real life is shown at the end of the film. A sad but inspirational story concerning two couples with healthy, loving relationships, Greenwood's interaction with his wife is especially rewarding but the scenes with his infant daughter will break your heart. An above average television movie about decent people facing heartbreaking adversity with dignity and gentle courage. Filmed in Vancouver the movie was nominated for a Humanitas Award and is greatly enhanced by the music of Mark Snow. Anne Jillian and Terry O'Quinn also star.
Although this movie is not available on video in the United States, it has been released in Europe in the PAL format and it airs quite often on tv.
