Bruce as "Mr. Jones" | ||
ne of Bruce Greenwood's more unique projects, this offbeat concept by the multi-talented director Todd Haynes began shooting the first week of August 2006 in Montreal, Canada and only recently completed production. Six actors (including one woman) personify six different aspects of folk music legend Bob Dylan. Richard Gere, Heath Ledger and Cate Blanchett are three of the more starry aspects, while other actors connected to the project include Christian Bale, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Julianne Moore, Ben Whishaw and Michelle Williams.O
Bruce has a double role in the film, playing
two parts based on Bob Dylan song lyrics. In one role he plays "Mr. Jones", a
supercilious British talk show host opposite Cate Blanchett and in the other he
enacts "Pat Garrett", the famed gunslinger in his 80s - grizzled, bearded and
infirmed - in a turn-of-the-century Western segment starring Richard Gere.
Haynes, who was nominated for an Oscar three years ago for his helming of Far from
Heaven, co-authored the script along with Oren Moverman and has had the
highly anticipated project in pre-production for over a year.
The film premiered at the Venice Film Festival on September 3, 2007, followed
appearances at festivals in Toronto, London, New York, Rio de Janeiro and
Vienna. It was released in the US on November 21, 2007. The
film received the inaugural Robert Altman Award at Film Independent's Spirit
Awards, presented to a film's director, casting director and its ensemble cast.
