(2004 feature film)
Set in the year 2050, Bruce Greenwood plays Lawrence Robertson, the head of US Robotics Corp. a world-wide company that manufactures the most cutting-edge robots ever known to man.
On the eve of a campaign to make the robots accessible to every household, their
creator is murdered and there is only one suspect - his personal robot. A police
detective with a personal bias against the man-like machines is brought in to
solve the homicide and in the process must confront the powerful Robertson.
An adventure film with something to say, this science fiction project for 20th Century Fox is directed by Alex Proyas and stars Will Smith as the detective looking into the possibility that robots - of which the entire human population is dependent - may
have figured out a way to by-pass the laws of robotics to take over the world.
The highly regarded script was written by noted sci fi author Harlan Ellison and is based on a series of stories by another famous author - Isaac Asimov. Although a shroud of secrecy surrounded the production
with its unexpected plot convolutions, there was lots of information on the film, which began shooting May 6, 2003 in Vancouver and
was released with much anticipation on July 16, 2004 to record numbers, far
exceeding expectations.
Bruce Greenwood worked on this film at the same time as Being Julia, jetting back and forth between Vancouver and Budapest.
