Rules of Engagement

The DVD of Rules of Engagement contained two special featurettes that included short interviews with Bruce Greenwood as William Sokal. "A Look Inside" was specially produced for the DVD and in it Bruce spoke of his character's motives and the public's illumination of the military. "Behind-the-Scenes" was a 20-minute featurette that was produced for cable and originally broadcast in Aprill 2000. Greenwood is widely seen in the clips and also offers a short statement about the reasons for Sokal's condemnation of Childers. Bruce Greenwood's complete quotations follow: It's the 83 dead, innocent people, and if we take responsibility as a country for the tragedy that occurred, then our connection to that part of the world and our influence is going to evaporate. I don't think this is going to alienate the public from the military. I think it will illuminate what a difficult position the military has.
Bruce's two Rules of Engagement interviews
William Sokal is the National Security Advisor, who's given this terrible task of making this very difficult decision whether or not to hang out Samuel Jackson to dry. And I think as a viewer you watch what he does, and if you hate him, take an extra second and put yourself in his position and look at the interests of the United States that will be undone if Jackson is exonerated.
