Movie-TV Credits
Nathan and his crew

(TV series on NBC; aired November 1997)

Bruce Greenwood holds center stage in this prime time drama for NBC as Dr. Nathan Bradford, the leader and driving spirit behind a team of research scientists who investigate people's nightmares by going into their dream states through cutting edge technology. But Nathan is a man with a haunted past of his own, who uses the dream state to communicate with his comatose wife Gail (Kathrin Nicholson), injured two years before in an automobile accident.

Joining Nathan at the institute are Kate Russell and Vincent Konefke (Naomi Watts and Abraham Benrubi), formerly Nathan's students at Stanford University, and Ben Costigan (Jeffrey D. Sams), an Air Force pilot Nathan's technology cures in the premiere episode. The pilot was directed by David Nutter, an alumnus of The X Files and Millennium, who serves as consulting producer as well. Except for the first episode, the series was filmed entirely in Greenwood's hometown of Vancouver, British Columbia.

A victim of NBC strategy, Sleepwalkers' debut was delayed two months because of baseball, then premiered during November sweeps opposite a show that drew the same audience. Though nine of the original 13 episodes were filmed, the show was cut abruptly after two. Fortunately, all nine episodes were eventually aired in England.

Although less profound and distinctive than Greenwood's previous series Nowhere Man, this show seemed to be better adapted for series television, as it's innovative theme was surprisingly accessible and left itself wide open for fascinating new plots. The cast of characters was only sketchily defined leaving room for provocative developments, the most intriguing of all being Nathan Bradford himself. Even though the show was dropped unceremoniously, the assignment was prestigious for Greenwood -- as the leading character in a prime time drama. And the show has had an unexpected resilience abroad -- with DVDs of the first 6 episodes readily available in both Germany and Hong Kong.
