Bruce Greenwood has been cast as Christopher Pike, the first captain of the Starship Enterprise, in the 11th film in the Star Trek franchise being directed by J. J. Abrams (Lost,  MI3).  The story centers on the early days of Trek characters James T. Kirk and Mr. Spock, including their meeting at Starfleet Academy and first outer space mission.  The script has been written by Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, with Abrams and Damon Lindelof producing.

Cast members include Chris Pine (Kirk), Karl Urban (McCoy), Anton Yelchin (Chekov), Zoë Saldana (Uhura), Simon Pegg (Scotty), John Cho (Sulu), and Zachary Quinto & Leonard Nimoy (both as Spock). There will also be a villain named "Nero", played by Eric Bana. 

Production began in Los Angeles in November 2007. Star Trek XI was scheduled to be released on December 25, 2008, but that date has been pushed back to May 8, 2009.
