Tell Me No Secrets

Don Shaw

(Made for television movie; originally aired 1/20/97 on ABC)

Bruce Greenwood plays Don Shaw, the ex-husband and opposing lawyer to Lori Loughlin's prosecuting attorney Jess Koster in this fairly routine woman-in-distress story from Hallmark. Although second billed, his part is smaller than expected, hovering in the background of a storyline that centers on the female lead, who is being terrorized by a crazed killer, suffering from severe anxiety attacks, refereeing family squabbles and investigating the unsolved disappearance of her mother four years earlier.

In a virtually unexplained part Greenwood slicks his hair back and sports a goatee in an effort to add age as the older, controlling ex-spouse, whose true motives are not even hinted at until the final denouément. Indeed, both male leads are only sketchily detailed - probably in an effort to create more suspense. Still, there's several amusing scenes for Greenwood and he has good rapport with Loughlin, who works well opposite his more finely tuned portrayal. There's one wonderfully complex scene for the actor that is reminiscent of his tortured performance as Francis in Exotica.

Filmed in Toronto and Los Angeles, there's an effective two-scene cameo by Kathryn Harrold (his Companion co-star) as the feisty coroner.

Although this title has never been released on video, it’s frequently shown over Lifetime Movie Network and The Women’s Entertainment Channel.
