A Musical Gig with Gregg Henry
Bruce Greenwood and John Lathan

Gregg Lee Henry's gig in March of 2003 was supposed to be one without Bruce Greenwood, who was in Vancouver filming. I drove down from the San Francisco Bay Area anyway, because website contributor Ann Orr was visiting Los Angeles, so we decided to meet up and see Gregg up close and personal. As it happens, Bruce had just flown in the night before and even though he felt "under-rehearsed", he not only attended the performance but joined Gregg on stage. For a full report on meeting up with Bruce, check the fan report linked at the bottom of the page, but for information on the concert, read on:

The concert was great fun, as usual. Gregg is such a wonderful performer - funny, clever, wry and touching. He introduced Bruce and said "he's just back from making movies all over the world!" Bruce bounded up and they did "Heaven Knows" and "A Bite of Yours" from the second album and "Just a Little Something for the Pain" from the first. When Bruce started to leave Gregg said, "Don't go! Stay right there! Just change character." He then introduced John Latham, who came from the side room, not the audience like Bruce. He gave a long intro to the Jimmy Swaggart song "I Want my God TV!" and then Bruce and John simultaneously whipped out dark glasses to portray blind beggars during the song. It was really a very funny moment and it was a kick having Bruce involved in that song, too, because he wasn't the two times I saw it before.

Bruce went back to his seat after that and Gregg continued - first with John, and then alone. He sang a lot of new tunes, including a great favorite - "We Come Closer" with John and he even did two encores - it was especially great to have "Je suis Americaine" again. So a really fabulous evening that would have been a hoot even w/o Bruce, but was that much more exciting with him there.
