During the Summer of 2003, Bruce made an unexpected appearance at Genghis Cohen to accompany his friend, Gregg Henry. He was just off an airplane and didn't have much time to practice with Gregg, but he managed to join him for a couple of songs and he even performed alone.
The evening started with a few songs from Gregg, while Bruce sat in the audience tapping his feet and enjoying the show with loud laughter. Gregg quickly brought his friend onstage, however, and the two of them performed three songs together. The affection these two have for each other was really evident at this particular show. After each song, they'd reach out for each other's hand and grab hold of each other and just smile, enjoying what they created together. Then Gregg joked about how Bruce was supposed to be at the All Star Jamboree that turned out to be the "Missing Star Jamboree" -- and he abruptly left Bruce alone on stage.
The second Gregg was gone, Bruce whimpered to his wife, "Sue, can I have a glass of water?" but Gregg was faster and brought him some beer. He was obviously nervous and after the first number, mumbled, "think tempo, and words, it will come to you."
Gregg reclaimed the stage for the last couple of songs and the audience called him back for two encores. Gregg got Bruce to come up for the first one --- coaxing him up as Bruce good naturally groaned "geesh, oh no." Apparently, they did screw up from the looks on their faces at one point, but the audience certainly couldn't tell.
