Musical Appearances

Talking it OverOctober, 1998

The Jim Byrnes Show
Strummin' that guitar

Bruce Greenwood taped a special musical appearance for The Jim Byrnes Show in August of 1998, while in Vancouver shooting Double Jeopardy. The segment - in which Bruce performs two original songs and also engages in a short comedy skit - was aired during the week of October 22nd. Although Bruce performs musically quite regularly, this is a rare musical appearance as Bruce Greenwood, actor.

Jim Byrnes is a popular musician / actor from Vancouver, who appeared as a regular on the syndicated show Highlander as well as USA's The Net. He can currently be seen in Cliffhangers, a new series on the Fox Family Network. He co-starred with Bruce in the 1994 film Dream Man. The Jim Byrnes Show airs locally over VCC in Vancouver. Although the show's time has altered over the last few years, it was airing at 11:30 pm Friday nights in 1998.

Talking It Over

Bruce's first song was an original ballad he composed with buddy Michael Gambon. Accompanied by Bill Sample on the piano, he explores the need for communication between lovers:

I don't care what we talk about darling,
I just know that I can't leave without --
Talking it over, speaking our minds.
Give us time to talk,
We can find it in our hearts.

Bruce also engaged in a hilarious skit with Byrnes regular Eva de Viveiros. In the skit hopeful thespian Eva hits on Bruce to help her rehearse a scene about a priest who becomes enamored with her "sweet young village girl." Not known for comedic roles, this little gem shows us what else might be out there for Bruce. He's just wonderful!

Bruce's second song was also an original composition, a more upbeat blues song composed by Bruce and Michael Gambay and titled "If That's Not Love, What Is?" Along with the vocals Bruce broke out into an impressive guitar riff. He was once again accompanied by Sample.
